If you lived in the Amazon and wanted to go to the Orange County money would be a legitimate obstacle - but the other way round its really not. Get packing! My husband and I are actually using student loans to travel currently. Since we both have been in grad school the past two years or so and work full-time, we didn't necessarily need the loans for living, but we made the decision to use them for travel as that's an education in and of itself. So far, we haven't regretted it. I am absolutely dying to go to Bali, Indonesia and Kerala, India.
