I don't fly very often, and usually I completely agree on being comfortable. But the last time I travelled I ended up buying so many Christmas presents and other things that I almost had no room in my suitcase and I didnt have another bag to use as a carry on. So I wore heels, not because I was trying to impress anyone, but because they wouldn't fit into my suitcase.

I agree. I think the whole dressing up thing first started when it was a really special occasion to fly. I remember my grandparents getting dressed up because it wasn't something you did all the time. Now, with taking over 20 flights a year, it has lost that special factor. I mean, I'm still excited to get on a plane, but since I do it so frequently, it's not that big of a deal for me.
I wear flip flops, yoga pants and a hoodie. Sometimes, I'll also throw on a huge scarf so I can use that as a blanket. I still think I look cute, so I guess that's all that matters!

if I'm traveling for a business meeting I wear heels, otherwise I'm usually in jeans and flip-flops! I prefer to wear jeans because they're bulky and heavy, so it's easier to wear them while traveling vs. packing them in my backpack, plus I always get cold on airplanes. But on long-haul international flights, I'm kind to my feet... and have no problem running between connecting gates in flip-flops.

~cheers, hiptraveler

Flip Flops or Slippers is one of the worst thing ever design by human. A pair of decent shoes is always the best. I don't understand why Singaporeans are so proud of it, Flip Flopping around the cities in it. Most lamest reason I get from people is our humid weather or they just wanna let loose from their daily 9-5 work attire. Your foot does most all the work the very second you start rise to walk & travel, at any given time & space is expose to all types of debris, substances, materials, forms, objects, angles, machinery indoor + outdoor; i.e. (train doors, glass doors, wet floors, bar stools, movable chairs, train & platform gaps, trolleys, steps, escalators, crowd & many you can think of, (do feel free to add if you can think of any)...etc. It's like a ticking time bomb accidents waiting to happen.

I don't understand people who dress up for the airport either. Unless it's a business trip or something and they have to catch a meeting. I wear flip flops and pants w/ garter like yoga pants, etc. I typically look like shit. Presentable shit.

It's funny. I just wrote a whole post about flip-flops! Love it!

Planes are COLD PLACES. I always have to make sure I layer up in order to stay warm and comfy. Obviously flip-flops are an impossibility for me, no matter where I travel.
Last summer I flew Singapore Airlines and they were amazing, offering a free pair of disposable socks in their welcome packet! Now that's what I call customer-friendly!

Totally with you on the comfort. Yoga pants or sweat pants. T-shirt with a sweater for layering. Socks. Comfortable shoes. I even go with slip ons that are good for hiking.

I find slightly looser shoes are good also for long flights that make your feet swell.

Man, I can't imagine trying to put on a pair of heels after a 12 hour flight and then run through an airport like MIA (which means an hour walk and going thru security again).

I've seen people in heels in the airport. And short skirts. Yep. High heels. Short skirt. I want to ask them where they're going.

Then, I want to whip out my camera and take photos, but airports seem a bit weird about people doing things like that.
