Sete, France

Sète

A small fishing village not far from Marseille. I mean so close that we can see if from the ship as we are docked. We slept late and went to breakfast. Watched a sailboat off the back of the boat as we had omlets made to order and pancakes (for the record I haven’t had a pancake but Jack has enjoyed them each morning)

Around 10:30 we headed for the village. From the ship you have to take a shuttle as the port isn’t walkable it is a commercial port.

The shuttle dropped us off at the port entrance at it was about a 10 minute walk into the town. Sète is full of canals and boats. It is quite the opposite of Marseille. Very quiet sleepy town. Much older population. We were lucky enough to happen upon the local market. I had to only happen once a week but there was everything from produce to nursery items and flowers to down by the first canal dresses and shoes and like a cheap outdoor Walmart 🤣 it was very interesting. I truly enjoyed the outdoor market. Watching the locals interact to do their day to day life. I watched them sip espresso at the local cafe and then all had their “market bags” filled with the freshest produce, meats, breads, spices and cheeses. Talk about fresh!  They were yelling and signing and talking. It felt so alive!  Overwhelming but I adored truly being immersed into the culture.

The way of life here is just so different. It seems to be much more relaxed and easy.,none seem to be in a hurry. They are enjoying each others company rather than always on their phones. Every evening we have witnessed families playing in the plazas, piazza, whatever you chose to call it. They slow for a cup of coffee with a friend. The only  people in a hurry seem to to be the motorcyclists. They don’t have road rules or don’t follow them. They drive on the sidewalk and between cars they park where they please.
